Relocation of children to another state is one of the most difficult issues that can arise in family law cases. Is the availability of Skype technology influencing judges to be more inclined to allow relocation requests? This issue was on the table at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers in Chicago last week. Virtual visitation via Skype or Facebook is better than nothing, but it is no substitute for actual face-to-face time with a parent. There is very little research on this issue but experts warn about the availability of this technology becoming a factor in favor of relocation.
